Dear Parent / Carer
End of a Very Strange Year!
Well the year has officially come to a close. It has been the strangest one I have known in nearly 30 years of teaching and I am looking forward to things getting back to nearer normal in September. It has been a real pleasure to have more children back in school but for some of you I know it has been tough as your children are still not back.
We have managed to make contact with every family, except one and the FLOs have done a fantastic job with supporting many of you. I would like to remind you if you need any help or support over the coming weeks, then please do not hesitate to get in touch. There will be staff around during the summer and we will support you in any way that we can.
By now you should have received your child’s report. If there is anything that you wish to discuss, we will be happy to arrange a meeting. Along with the report, there is also a welcome message from your child’s new class teacher and an invitation for your child to come in and meet them in September, before school starts. This is extremely important and we would ask you to make sure that they come in for this meeting; it means they will have met their teacher before they start and know what to expect on their first day back. Children will need to wear their school uniform for the one hour meeting on either Tuesday 1 or Wednesday 2 September 2020.
Due to the continuing restrictions caused by Covid-19, school will still be a little different when the children come back on Thursday 3rd September. We are closely following all the Government’s guidelines to ensure that we continue to keep your children as safe as possible.
In the morning, the bottom gates to the playground will be open from 8.35am. All children in Years 1 to 6 will go straight up and into their classrooms; there will be staff at every point to show the children where they need to go and to support anyone who is feeling anxious. No parents will be allowed to come on to the playground, as this will make a much larger group than is currently allowed.
Children starting in Reception Class will begin their first week either at 9.00am or 12.30pm and parents will be allowed to accompany their children to the classroom. Each parent has also received a pack telling them when and how these times will change. If there is any confusion, then please just ask.
Collection from school will be a little more complicated as we need to avoid the usual crowds at the end of the day.
Year 1 and 2 will finish at 3.00pm and they will need to be collected from the small FRONT PLAYGROUND.
Year 6 will also finish at 3.00pm and they will come back down the slope from the playground.
Years 3 to 5 will finish at 3.05pm and will also come down the same slope.
This is going to be quite a challenge and it will take a few days to get used to. In order to support this, we are asking all parents not to arrive too early and to leave immediately after their child has been collected. Where possible, we are also asking you to come in through the Denmark Street gates and leave by Bridge Street or Sidney Street. If you drive your children to school PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE INTO DENMARK STREET. This will be extremely dangerous as there will be so many more children arriving this way.
As with everything over the last few months these arrangements may change. We will make sure we keep you as up to date as possible. Please keep an eye out for any messages via Parentmail or any news flashes on the website.
Finally I wish you all a fantastic and safe summer holiday, although in many ways it does not feel like a holiday. We genuinely cannot wait to have all children back in school and will do our best to make sure we see you all in September. Attached to this letter is a list of key reminders and expectations around school.
It has been a long time since many of your children have been in school and I wanted to make sure everyone comes back in the right way.
