“You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf!!!”

This week we have spoken to several parents that are finding the pressure of Lockdown and home schooling tough. Remember that most of you are not teachers and are not home schooling your children by choice. This situation is out of our control and so it is completely understandable if you are feeling worried and frustrated.

We know you don’t want your children to fall behind, but we also know that there is a world of difference between a teacher helping them in a classroom and mum helping at home, with all the distractions that provides. You can only do what is right for your family so try not to get too stressed with it all!

It is also important to remember that we do not expect the children to spend the same amount of time on home learning as they would on class based learning. If you try to keep them working for too long a time their attention will start to wander. There are lots of zoom check-in sessions available for the children to join which will really help them to stay engaged with school and also gives them an opportunity to see their classmates and teachers. You can also access assemblies via the school website which will help the children to feel connected to the school still.

For those moments when the Home Learning does get too much, there are lots of things you can do with your children at home such as; letting them help you to make dinner, read cooking instructions, laying the table, loading the washing machine, washing up etc. These are all valuable life skills and your children will still be learning, even if they don’t realise it. Plus they will get to spend some time with you whilst they are doing it and who knows…….they might even enjoy it????!!

Below are some tips to help you look after your own mental health and some ways for you to help your children cope with any stress or anxiety that may be feeling.

Remember that you can contact Sharon or I every day during the week if you need any help or support.

I am in school on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday and Sharon is in school on a Tuesday or Thursday and we are also working from home on the other days.
